"States must henceforth make “individualized sentencing decisions,” in Justice Elena Kagan’s words, rather than imposing mandatory life without parole. They must take into account a youth’s age, maturity, family circumstances and history, potential for rehabilitation and other factors. And states must engage in meaningful review of juveniles in prison so they have the opportunity to re-enter their communities if they are rehabilitated".

"I now feel that the game, the streets, and my homeboys have robbed me of my life before I had the chance to live. Why? Because of the lack of educating me to the deadly risks that awaits to claim a new soul like mine through unprotected sex, but the fact still remains, I have been sentenced to death among the living by my own ignorance, my own lack of education, my own desires and my own freedom of choice to make life decisions. So don't be like me, stay HIV & AIDS free. Unprotected sex can make you another victim and ghost just like me."

"“The adult criminal court is no place to put children,” said Liz Ryan, the executive director of the Campaign for Youth Justice. “It doesn’t have the kind of accountability that the juvenile justice system has, it doesn’t have the kinds of services and treatment that are developmentally appropriate for children, [and] it places them at serious risk of harm in adult facilities and jails.”

Miranda Rights~Staying silent NOT enough/A MUST READ

http://www.nolo.com/legal-update/staying-silent-not-enough-miranda-rights-33985.html

Excerpt...please read full article....

Some kind of simple but unambiguous statement is the key, the Court said in Berghuis v. Thompkins. In other words. you can effectively give up your Miranda rights by simply failing to invoke them while the police continue to question you.
So, after an officer gives you a Miranda warning, it's best to make your desire to remain silent clear (and hopefully stop any police questioning) by saying something like "I wish to invoke my right to remain silent."
READ the supreme court's decision........    http://supreme.nolo.com/us/560/08-1470/index.html
It is imperative/crucial for children and adults to be IN THE KNOW of the "miranda rights", one MUST TELL/say they "wish" to invoke their right to remain silent.
It is our duty as parents and advocates to help get people "educated" of their "rights"  Please share this info with those in your world.
